A storm-week phone plan for roofers
Hail hits at 7pm. By 8pm the first calls start. By the next morning your office is 80 calls behind and your crews are on roofs with no signal. Here's the plan to have in place before that happens.
1. Decide who answers first
Your office, always, during hours. The backup only steps in on the third ring, when the line is busy, or after close. Write it down so nobody has to decide it at 9pm.
2. Approve the storm script
What's the inspection fee? Do you handle insurance claims? What's the earliest slot? Which neighborhoods are you prioritizing? Your backup agent should have these answers loaded before the season, not during it.
3. Text every missed caller within seconds
Even if the backup answers most calls, some will still slip during a surge. Automatic text-back with a booking link recovers most of those without a human touching them.
4. Grade and route the next morning
Hot leads with confirmed damage first, insurance-claim questions to your best closer, general estimates to the calendar. Everything else the automations chase.
5. Count it afterwards
Calls recovered, inspections booked, jobs sold. One storm week measured this way usually settles the question of whether phone coverage is worth it.
