The five-minute rule for home-service leads

When a homeowner has water coming through the ceiling, they aren't shopping. They're calling down a list until someone answers. The company that responds first, by phone or by text, is almost always the company that gets the job.

Sales research on lead response has shown for years that the odds of reaching and qualifying a lead fall off sharply after the first few minutes. In home services it's even harsher, because the next company is one tap away in the same search results.

Make the fast reply automatic

You can't guarantee a person will respond in five minutes. You can guarantee a system will. The moment a call is missed, the caller gets a text: "Sorry we missed you, this is Mike's Plumbing. Want the next available slot? Tap here." An email follows. If they reply, the agent books it. If they call back, the agent answers. Either way, you were first.

Same rule for every channel

Web forms, after-hours texts, chat on your site: treat them like calls. Instant reply, real booking time, confirmation with your name on it. Then the reminder the day before so the job actually happens.
